Interview with Roberta Garibaldi

Advisory Board | Food & Wine Tourism

Roberta Garibaldi – Head of Tourism Lab University of Bergamo

In a few lines, from your point of view and based on what you have gathered so far, what are the main developments that you think could be presented at BTO11? So, an invitation for the audience to take part.
Tourism that is ever smarter at BTO11, with over 100 appointments programmed in the scientific schedule: round tables, interviews, keynote speakers and the Toolbox. A full immersion in the world of communication as a strategic lever for the development of SMART TOURISM that, as of this year, also embraces the theme of food and wine tourism, broadening the horizons towards a sector experiencing strong growth.

In your workgroup, what do you deal with specifically?
We are constructing a programme, starting out from the perspective of hoteliers and destination managers, whilst also considering restaurateurs who are a new target that BTO wish to reach. We will address the relationship with technologies, analysing how they enrich the customer experience before, during and after the trip.

Destination, Digital Strategy, Food and Wine Tourism and Hospitality – the main topics of BTO11. Your contribution will be incorporated into the scientific programming schedule. The underlying theme is SMART. Can you help us to break this down from your perspective and with regards to the theme you are handling?
Being SMART in the food and wine tourism sector means offering innovative services able to improve not only the tourist’s experience, but also the quality of life of those residing in the tourist destinations and, not least, the profitability of companies operating in the territory. Food and wine are increasingly decisive in choosing a destination and pivotal in the experiences enjoyed throughout the stay – it is important for players in this sector to flank the great tradition with technological innovations and new media.

Do you have anything else to add?
I believe that the added value of BTO11 is the relevance of the speakers and the “players” involved, coupled with the depth with which the themes will be addressed throughout the programme.
