Interview with Mariapina Trunfio

Advisory Board | Digital Strategy

Mariapina Trunfio – Director of the University Specialisation Course in Tourism & Hospitality Management, University of Naples Parthenope

To which Working Group of the BTO11 Programme Committee do you contribute?
I will carry out a transversal study, with a greater focus on Digital Strategy.

In a few lines, from your point of view and based on what you have gathered so far, what are the main developments that you think could be presented at BTO11? So, an invitation for the audience to take part.
The new challenges of Smart Tourism: creating innovative business models for destinations and businesses; integrating participatory planning with forms of e-participation to increase stakeholder engagement; developing experiential platforms of sharing and co-creation of tourist experiences in which the tourist becomes the “visit-actor”; defining new semantic scenarios for the identification of tourist profiles.

In your workgroup, what do you deal with specifically?
Smart experiences (through virtual reality, augmented reality gamification and digital platforms) that increase engagement, co-creation and edutainment in destinations, museums and airports. Digital profiling of tourists from culturally-distant markets.

Destination, Digital Strategy, Food and Wine Tourism and Hospitality – the main topics of BTO11. Your contribution will be incorporated into the scientific programming schedule. The underlying theme is SMART. Can you help us to break this down from your perspective and with regards to the theme you are handling?
Smart people, smart experience, smart destination and smart business.

Do you have anything else to add?
The future of smartness in destinations: developing social capital through social innovation processes in order to train smart people and render the ICTS a widespread patrimony able to balance identity and innovation.
